🌀🐇 #305 characters yet to debut, be where your feet are, the deep-sea siphonophore

Plus the hunger to be everything

⚡️ Enlightening Bolts

🪞 The Hunger To Be Everything: Amber writes about the quiet ache of wanting every life at once, and how the endless reaching for more can become its own slow way of disappearing. Read it here.

🎥 The Art of Life: A quiet documentary from Science and Nonduality on living outside convention, in deep integrity with your own essence. Watch it here.

👀 Why Are You Performing For An Audience That Isn’t Watching?: Amira on the spotlight effect: how much of life reopens once you realize the crowd you shrink for was barely watching at all. Read it here.

🎇 Image of The Week

A deep-sea siphonophore, a long translucent colony of orange-glowing zooids curving through the black water

A siphonophore, drifting in the deep. It looks like a single long animal, but it is really a colony of many. Each glowing orange segment is a separate body called a zooid, and they bud from one another and stay joined for life, some built only to swim, some only to feed, some only to reproduce. No cell among them ever lives alone. Photographed by NOAA Ocean Exploration.

🎭 The Main Characters Yet To Debut

I find we often imagine the future using what’s present.

We fail to factor the unexpected because, of course, then it would be expected.

But there’s something I want to encourage you to leave room for:

The main characters yet to debut.

What do I mean?

There are significant individuals who will play an important role in the unfolding of your life’s journey that you have yet to meet.

They aren’t on your radar at all.

Some day they’ll show up and at the time you likely won’t even realize it.

The context in which you meet them can be completely mundane.

A casual dinner party. A trip to the cafe. An airplane seat.

They might become a business collaborator, a dear friend, or a romantic interest. Who knows?

We can’t anticipate how they will fit into the plot but it will be significant.

These people exist, walking around right now, sharing this same globe.

It’s just not time for you to discover them yet.

But you will.

And as you move through your days you might come to witness chance encounters as life auditioning new characters for your storyworld (and you for them).

I like this frame because it inspires curiosity and intrigue in situations that would otherwise feel very “normal.”

But today could be the day you look back in 20 years and think “That was the day everything changed because that was the day I met...”

Or tomorrow.

Or the next day.

These plot twists are bound to happen.

There’s no way around it.

So pay attention.

Binge watch your life with (at least) the same amount of interest as the shows you find captivating.

You’ve got a front-row seat to a story never told before in the history of the universe.

Sure it might rhyme with others but in its complete majestic detail, the life you are living is wholly, completely unique.

🌧️ Be Where Your Feet Are

Reflect on these words from the poet mrb poetry:

stand in the rain the same way you stand in the sun.
don’t rush. be still. patient. and listen
for whispers of thunder before the sky opens.
relish in how the ground softens under the touch
of a spring storm.
curl your toes into damp earth and learn how it gives
freely,
unpolluted by ‘what ifs’ and ‘if onlys’.
be where your feet are: a reminder that you
are as important here
as rain drops and robin eggs
blades of grass and birch trees
be where your feet are
because the clouds will still move
the rain will still fall
& life will still happen all around you
whether you worry about it or not.

Randalekobold: a German word that translates, literally, to “riot goblin.” A small person who is always aggressive and forever looking for stress, conflict, or drama.

how to tell if the life you’re living is actually yours

Cover image for the essay how to tell if the life you’re living is actually yours

“i think there are some seasons in life where nothing is technically wrong, but something still feels slightly off. not crisis-off. not oh my goodness everything-is-burning-off. just this quiet, difficult-to-explain feeling that you are living inside a life that makes sense on paper but does not fully feel like yours. you are doing the things. answering the emails. seeing the people. going to the gym. making the plans. keeping up with the version of yourself other people seem to understand. and still, somewhere underneath all of it, there is a small voice asking: is this actually what i want?

i used to think that question would arrive loudly. i thought misalignment would look more dramatic. you know like quitting the job. ending the relationship. moving cities. crying on the bathroom floor. having some cinematic moment where the truth finally became impossible to ignore. but i am starting to think a lot of misalignment is much quieter than that. sometimes it feels like a deep tiredness you cannot sleep off. sometimes it feels like being bored by a dream you used to be proud of. sometimes it feels like performing interest in conversations you have technically chosen. sometimes it feels like looking around at your own life and feeling grateful, but not fully there.”
