πŸŽ‡ Image of The Week

An image of a fogbow captured at Antero Reservoir, Colorado by Lars Leber. Fogbows form through the same basic optical process as rainbows, with sunlight refracting and reflecting inside water droplets. But fog droplets are much smaller than rain droplets. At this tiny scale, diffraction effects dominate over refraction, which causes the wavelengths of light to overlap and wash out rather than separating into distinct colors. The result is a broad, ghostly white band rather than the vivid spectrum of a rainbow.

πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ You Imposter

When venturing into territory outside of your comfort zone, it's not uncommon to feel like an imposter.

"Who am I to be doing this?" is the question that rings in the ears of so many people on the cusp of a new beginning.

It's so easy to see supreme confidence and competence in those you admire while minimizing your own ability.

Here's the thing: the people you admire were once exactly where you are.

So please, don't let the dreaded "imposter syndrome" keep you from trying something new.

Embrace it. Understand that feeling like an imposter does not mean you're lacking something. It does not mean you should not keep going.

It can be a GOOD sign.

It means you see many ways you can improve.

Of course, seeing how you could be better can feel overwhelming and daunting.

But when you accept you don't need to be perfect, you instead experience the imposter's gift: you see the details that lead to a path of greater mastery.

You have ample material to slowly hone your craft and refine your skills.

Imposters grow more than self-perceived know-it-alls.

Embrace it.

πŸŽ‰ Art of Celebration

Consider this provocation from Abraham Joshua Heschel:

"People of our time are losing the power of celebration. Instead of celebrating we seek to be amused or entertained. Celebration is an active state, an act of expressing reverence or appreciation. To be entertained a passive stateβ€”it is to receive pleasure afforded by an amusing act or a spectacle.... Celebration is a confrontation, giving attention to the transcendent meaning of one's actions.”

The eight secrets to a (fairly) fulfilled life

There will always be too much to do – and this realisation is liberating. Today more than ever, there’s just no reason to assume any fit between the demands on your time – all the things you would like to do, or feel you ought to do – and the amount of time available. Thanks to capitalism, technology and human ambition, these demands keep increasing, while your capacities remain largely fixed. It follows that the attempt to β€œget on top of everything” is doomed. (Indeed, it’s worse than that – the more tasks you get done, the more you’ll generate.)

The upside is that you needn’t berate yourself for failing to do it all, since doing it all is structurally impossible. The only viable solution is to make a shift: from a life spent trying not to neglect anything, to one spent proactively and consciously choosing what to neglect, in favour of what matters most.
